The MXR Jail Guitar Doors Overdrive captures the raw, gritty tones that Wayne Kramer used to upend rock 'n' roll through MC5's legendary early 1970s recordings. Developed in collaboration with Daredevil Pedals' Johnny Wator—himself a student of Kramer's work—this limited-edition pedal delivers a huge rock 'n' roll kick, just like Wayne's music.
Cascading Dual-Gain Circuit
At the heart of the JGD2 lies a unique fusion of Johnny Wator's Drive-Bi Dual Gain Distortion and the legendary MXR Micro Amp. This creates two separate gain stages, one cascading into the other, producing a sound reminiscent of two dimed-out 100-watt amp stacks. A single DRIVE knob controls the outputs of both circuits simultaneously—as you turn it clockwise, the first stage feeds into the second, boosting overall gain and volume for an unrestrained roar thick with harmonics.
Simple. Punk Rock. Mighty.
The pedal is as simple as they come: one footswitch, one Drive knob, and a red LED indicator. It feels resolutely punk rock and delivers a mighty bark, with a wide and balanced EQ range that provides all the definition you need to cut through a loud live mix. An early prototype of this pedal was even delivered to an MC5 recording session and made it onto the album—the ultimate test passed.
Shepard Fairey Artwork
The JGD2 features striking artwork by street art pioneer Shepard Fairey (Obey Clothing, Obama "Hope" poster), depicting Kramer and his trusted star-spangled Strat in a gorgeous, symmetrical two-tone design that perfectly captures the pedal's rebellious tones.

A Tribute to a Punk Icon
Wayne Kramer's legacy extends far beyond music. His charity, Jail Guitar Doors, provides musical instruments and art workshops to help rehabilitate incarcerated individuals—a cause close to his heart, having himself spent four years in federal prison in the late '70s. The JGD2 is a fitting tribute to a true punk pioneer.
