Electro-Harmonix EHX Op Amp Big Muff Pi Fuzz Distortion Sustainer Guitar Effect Pedal

Electro-Harmonix Op Amp Big Muff Pi – Fuzz / Distortion / Sustainer

Overview

The Electro-Harmonix Op Amp Big Muff Pi is a faithful re-creation of the original late-70s classic that shaped the sound of an entire generation of alternative rock. With original vintage units selling for exorbitant prices, Mike Matthews decided to take the power to the people and reissue this legendary pedal at a price that players could actually afford. The circuitry of the new Op-Amp Big Muff Pi—sometimes referred to as the IC or V4 Big Muff—has been meticulously re-created, while several practical enhancements have been added, including a compact die-cast chassis and true bypass switching. This is the sound popularized by Billy Corgan on the Smashing Pumpkins' epic 1993 album Siamese Dream—and as Corgan himself confirmed after trying the reissue, "The magic's still in the box, I can still get what I'm looking for!"

Why Choose the Op Amp Big Muff Pi?

• Faithful Vintage Reissue: A faithful reissue of the original classic circa 1978, delivering the iconic sound and vibe that guitarists have coveted for decades. The pedal relies on op-amps rather than transistors and three gain stages rather than four to create its signature voice.

• Huge, Crushing Tone: Described by noted Big Muff collector and historian Kit Rae as "a huge, crushing Big Muff sound with more crunch," it's great for grungy, wall-of-sound distortion, heavy rhythm playing, and heavy leads. It captures the massive, sustaining fuzz that defined the grunge and alternative era.

• Simple, Powerful Controls: Controls for Tone, Sustain, and Volume give you complete command over your fuzz tone. The addition of a Tone Bypass switch lets you remove the tone circuit from the signal path for an even more raw, aggressive sound.

• True Bypass Switching: Ensures maximum signal integrity when the pedal is disengaged, preserving your core guitar tone.

• Pedalboard-Friendly Design: Housed in a rugged, compact die-cast chassis, this pedal fits easily on any pedalboard while withstanding the rigors of touring.

• Includes 9V Battery: Ready to play right out of the box.
