The Acoustic Sound: Balanced, Articulate, and Rich
The P7NC's unplugged voice is its foundation, described as having "superior balance and articulation".
-
The NEX Body: The NEX shape is the keystone of its acoustic performance. This original Takamine body style is designed to blend the projection and "power of a dreadnought" with the more-focused, "balanced tone" of an auditorium. This prevents the sound from becoming muddy and makes it a powerful, yet non-overpowering, instrument. The body depth and "silky balance" are particularly effective at complementing a vocal range, fitting its reputation as "a singer’s delight".
-
Premium Tonewoods: The core of the P7NC's voice comes from all solid woods. The solid spruce top produces a clear, brilliant, and "crisp" sound with a fast, percussive attack and robust projection. This is beautifully underpinned by the solid rosewood back and sides, which are responsible for the guitar's rich complexity. Rosewood is famous for its "long-standing" low-end and "crystalline trebles rich in overtones," providing a full, harmonic-rich foundation. The result is a deeply "rich and complex" voice that also offers a "wide dynamic range," allowing for expressive playing from soft fingerpicking to aggressive strumming.
-
Articulation and Projection: The use of high-quality, solid woods and Takamine's handcrafted Japanese luthiery results in exceptional note separation. Every note in a chord is clearly defined, projecting with "fantastic projection" and "rich clarity". It's a resonant and lively instrument that feels responsive to the player's touch. Furthermore, while sonically ready, new P7NCs can benefit from being "played in," with their tone expected to become even richer and fuller over time.
The Amplified Sound:
The CT4-DX system represents a notable step forward in Takamine's pursuit of natural amplified acoustic tone. Installed in their high-end Pro Series instruments, its "Dual Mode" design delivers a level of control and sonic realism that sets it apart from more conventional systems.
A Closer Look at the Components
The CT4-DX is a dual-channel preamp that blends two distinct technologies to capture a more complete picture of your guitar's voice:
-
The Palathetic® Pickup (The Foundation): The primary sound source is Takamine's proprietary Palathetic pickup. Instead of a single bar, it uses six individually shielded piezo-electric crystals—one dedicated to each string. This unique design is what gives the guitar its superior balance, high note separation, and clear, natural amplified sound. By capturing the vibrations directly from the saddle, the Palathetic system delivers the clarity of an isolated string signal while retaining the rich harmonic content of the resonating soundboard.
-
The Soundboard Transducer (The Key to Realism): The contact transducer is what makes the CT4-DX a "Dual Mode" system. It is a secondary pickup that attaches to the guitar's top, acting as a soundboard transducer (SBT). Its primary role is to capture the subtle, complex vibrations and "air" of the guitar as a whole—the percussive attack, the body resonance, and the tactile feedback from the soundboard.
Premium Features That Enhance the Experience
The sonic quality of the P7NC is supported by several well-considered appointments:
-
Playability: The asymmetrical neck profile, which is slightly thinner on the bass side, is ergonomically designed to fit your hand's natural shape for long-term playing comfort.
-
Intonation: The split bone saddle ensures that each string's intonation can be optimized, guaranteeing accurate tuning across the entire fretboard.
-
Sustain: The high-mass ebony bridge and pins contribute to the guitar's impressive note sustain, adding to its overall rich and resonant character.
