The journey of Headway Sakura (Japanese Cherry Tree) wood guitars began with the creation of a single ukulele in 2014. Over the years, Headway has expertly crafted instruments from this unique wood, which offers a distinct sound and quality compared to imported alternatives. As the company marks its 10th anniversary this year, it has developed numerous special models, aiming to take another significant step forward and share its artistry with the world.
This autumn, in celebration of a decade of craftsmanship, the Sakura Guitar Autumn Model draws inspiration from the four-season cherry blossom trees, or Shikizakura, renowned for their beauty in autumn. The back of the guitar features a crane gracefully descending from the evening sky to commemorate the 10th anniversary. The “Slanted Gradation” coloring reflects the essence of mountains adorned with autumn foliage and seasonal cherry blossoms. The sides are constructed from yamazakura (mountain sakura wood), known for its hardness and rich low to midrange tones, while also producing the sweet sound characteristic of sakura wood. The center section is made of kaede, or Japanese maple, which imparts a crisp and clear tonal quality.
The fretboard enhances this colorful celebration, adorned with autumn leaves and blooming cherry blossoms, adding to the Shikizakura model’s unique and stunning appearance.
The pickguard, shaped like a cherry blossom petal, is embellished with a design that mimics autumn leaves and features inlays of blooming cherry blossoms. The soundhole cover showcases a large autumn leaf design, while the backdrop of full cherry blossoms evokes the enchanting atmosphere of the Four-seasons Cherry Blossom Festival, making this model truly deserving of its name.
