Since Headway was founded, their guiding principle has always been to create “guitars that can grow with you.” They focus on durability, ensuring these instruments can be played confidently for years to come.
This philosophy, introduced by Yasuo Momose, who sadly passed away in 2024, has been passed down to his students and has become the foundation of Headway. Even while battling illness in his later years, Momose dedicated time to researching his next creation. The -Legacy- model was crafted by merging Momose’s philosophy with the expertise of his disciples, built upon a blueprint he was immensely proud of from his studies.
The “rear-shift bracing,” characterized by its crossing near the bridge, became Momose’s preferred specification in his later years. For this model, the innovative “LG-ARS Bracing” was introduced, which Momose regarded as “the closest to the ideal form.” He diligently refined it through a series of minor adjustments, seeking a balance between enhanced sound quality and structural support as he crafted new guitars.
Headway also adhere to Momose’s later specifications regarding the amount of scalloping, which alters the vibration of the top board by contouring the bracing. By opting for a shallow depth of scalloping, they have achieved an ideal equilibrium between preserving the rigidity of the top board and producing a warm, woody tone. This design allows the guitar to be played comfortably over long periods and to develop its character even further.
When Mr. Momose was still with Headway, he often remarked, “The thicker the neck, the more durable it is, and above all, the warmer and woodier the sound it produces.” He favored crafting necks with a solid, comfortable grip. Using the jig he once employed, they have meticulously recreated the slightly thicker V-shaped neck.
